Summer storms, time with friends, good eats, & awesome music

Okay, first I need to apologize for the photos.
1. I am by no means a photographer.
2. These photos are from my cheap cell phone...bare with me, haha!

1 & 2. Storm that came through last week--these storms during the summer months help me to get through summertime in the Mojave desert. Seriously, if we had more of them, I would enjoy the summer months more. Heck, I may even look forward to them! I'm more of a Fall & Springtime type of person. Supposedly rain is not in this week's forecast but having lived in this area for quite some time now, I've come to the conclusion that weather is slightly unpredictable in these parts. So, there is still hope!

3-6. Mad Hatter tea party for Ms. Kandice Avila's 1st birthday. OMG, what a cute little girl! Made an awesome lemon cheesecake, however I failed to take any pics of it :/

7. Only the best pot roast ever. Usually this is a winter meal but the husband & I had a terrible craving.

8. My first attempt at potato pancakes. They were delicious--greasy but heck-a delicious. I'm surprised at how easy they are to make!

9. If you are ever in the Morongo Basin & are looking for great food, live music and a little rowdiness, Pappy & Harriet's is the place to be. We LOVE Pappy's--they have the BEST pork chops & steak. They cook them outside over a pit of mesquite. Can't get a better pork chop or steak. Seriously. Also, they have the Shadow Mountain Band (pictured above). They play some awesome bluegrass!

Have an awesome week!!

Over the Weekend

So...it's Friday and I'm finally getting around to posting about last weekend.

This week has been Cuh-ray-zeee. I work at a community college library...a VERY small library and school started Monday. Let me just say, I'm totally relieved it's Friday and I'm off already. I need to re-coup from all of the running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Not to mention I began a 5 day Hospice training this week and it gets out pretty late at night. Late for me anyway.

Last Sunday, I took my mother and youngest sister to Oceanside, CA to visit my grandparents and my brother who were staying at a condo there for a few days on vacation. We had a BLAST! And that's saying a lot because I'm not a beach person...I hate the humidity in the summer, hate sand sticking to me...EVERYWHERE, and hate salt water. Hate is a strong word. But really, I very much dislike the beach more than any other place. Although, it is a beautiful sight.

Anyway, here are a few pics I was able to take during the day:

So there ya have it...and please poke fun at my ridiculously short bangs...Can't wait until these suckers grow out!

Last Sunday....

Last Sunday consisted of:

1. Breakfast in bed...the beloved and easy fried egg sandwhich.
2. Trip to Newport Beach to see family and hang out for the day
3.Sand in my shirt, undies, hair...and everywhere else and I never even ventured into the water.
4. A starfish...sorry didn't have my camera on me when we let it go :( I'm still kicking myself.
5. A long and peaceful drive home.

It was a beautiful day in Newport.

There were so many people on the beach compared to the last time we had the chance to visit Newport.

The breeze was wonderfully cool.

Hope we get the chance to visit again soon.

Summer Days & Nights

My summer days & nights consist of:
 - waking up to ants everywhere and spraying the heck out of them...then having to mop (ugh, I hate bugs).
- making coffee and watching Good Morning America
- taking a shower...if I feel like it, lol.
- Waiting for the Bro to get back from golfing so that we can go get his paper down the street at the local Pilot Station.
- Coming back home to scrounge up some lunch ( I can't cook for the life of me)
- Watching TV, making Postcards, writing in my journal, working on another puzzle, etc. to pass the time until it's time to go to bed.
- Talking to the hubs on the phone to go over our days apart from each other and then reading myself to sleep.

I can't wait to go home this weekend just so I have a break from this lonely place.

* I did go for a bike ride last night--I've forgotten how rough it is to ride a bike. I don't have a bike at home because we don't have sidewalks or bike lanes in Yucca...and I live on a dirt road so I'll probably need a mountain bike.

It's difficult to ride a bike in the sand.

And it's a bit scary riding a bike or walking by myself in Desert Hot Springs...and the bro won't go with me.

If Cor was here he'd go with me...I hate being away from him during the week.

What have you been doing to keep busy when it's too dang hot to venture out into the sunlight?
