Bright Red and A New Project

Sorry I haven't been religious about posting and taking pictures AT ALL lately. School has me wrapped around it's little finger--which is really a good thing but is super stressful at the moment.

Here are a few photos I have taken lately...

My Life Lately...

and all sorts of other things :)

But for the most part...just school work.

Ugh, but we are half-way through this quarter and soon I'll have a little bit of a break.

This is what I keep telling myself anyway.

A Valentine's Day Cause

I was browsing around Etsy yesterday and found this blog entry that's really focused on a good cause:

So this morning I made a couple of cards to send to Etsy to help make an elderly New Yorker's Valentine's Day a little more special this year.

If you decide to make a few cards or even purchase some to send for the cause, please send them to:

Etsy
Att: Katie Rose Crosswhite
55 Washington St., Suite 512
Brooklyn, NY 11201

Oh! And they do have a few rules you must follow like:
- NO GLITTER
- Print Clearly...etc.

So, make sure to visit Etsy's blog to see all of the rules before sending your sweet valentine's cards out. We want to make sure they can give them out since they need all the cards they can get!

Happy Sunday!

To Dos for the Day

Awesome booties made by Dena Gast

So, I'm off work until Friday--it's weird to not work all week and then go in on a Friday. But I do have a second job so I'll work Wednesday--and school starts for me tomorrow night so I'll have things to do this week for sure! It's like I'm off, but I'm not really off. I just a few more hours to myself during the day until Friday. Ugh, my schedule is overwhelming to think about...

Anyway, so for today:

1. finish the dessert stand I've been working on since two days ago (it really should not be taking this long).

2. Surf ebay in hopes of finding the movies my brother wants for his bday...and pray that I order copies he can actually play in his dvd player. Why can't all dvds be the same format?! Seriously.

3. Wash husband's work clothes...cause I'm sick of seeing them laying around, lol.

4. Thrift store? It's an addiction.

5. Pay bills (poop)

6. Work on swaps for swap-bot! Fun!!

7. Paint my nails--I've had the same chipped NP on since before Christmas...I just keep putting glitter over it to disguise the chips. Man, it's going to be tough to get all this dang glitter off!

A New Project

This Morning, I'm beginning a new project.

I'm going to start making more dessert/fancy snack trays, starting with this one. I just have to remove the stickers, wash 'em up all nice and shiny and then glue them together with my fancy ceramic adhesive.

I love the blue cherry plates I found. I need to do a little more hunting for nice plates and glass candy bowls. I love the way glass and ceramic go so beautifully together.

Maybe I'll find some plates today?!

Can't wait to get started!

Oh, and I'm super excited about all the rad new scrap booking stuff I received for Christmas gifts! And I've been putting off buying storage drawers from Wally-World but now that I see I've made a gi-normous mess of my crafting corner, I think it's time to bite the bullet and get them already. Maybe just 2 to begin with. Right now, everything is either on top of desk, or surrounding it in brown boxes and I can never seem to find anything. I need to get organized and have a system.

Any suggestions?

Happy New Years Eve!!

DIY Christmas Continued...

I totally forgot that I took pictures of some of the projects I worked on for Christmas a few weeks ago. I found them this morning when I was trying to get my camera to work properly...I totally need a new camera--STAT!

Maybe I'll find a good deal this week in all the after Christmas sales. We'll see.

I decorated some little notebooks
for our student workers at the library.

I tried making my own little notepad: I read something on a crafting website that said mod podge works well for binding note pads. I think it works well, but it gets a little crispy when it dries so if you aren't careful the pages will crack off the pad. I made this one to put in brother's stocking this year.

A journal I made for my sister--she's an artist and loves to doodle. She paints too but I'm not sure she's painted much lately. I really liked the colors of this project. She likes classic looks, especially anything that has to do with Audrey Hepburn so I decided to use tiffany blue, black and white. And one of her favorite colors is pink so I added a tiny bit of pretty pink lace.
This was also sort of a stocking stuffer, or extra gift.

Did anyone else do any DIY/crafting projects for gifts this year? I would love to see some! And I' always looking for more ideas so please share!!

Happy New Year!

DIY Gifts

This year, many of the gifts I'm giving are made by me...I think people appreciate them more...and they are unique. You can't get them in a store :) At least I would rather get something handmade.

Here's one of the projects I've been working on:

Wine Glass Charms (Front & Back)

It's a little bit messy around these parts...

Other projects I've worked on but didn't get pictures of:
- A collage set for a co-worker: she has a craft room and loves anything handmade, especially art.
- Another set of wine glass charms for my boss: she's in a wine club and loves anything related.
- A Notepad: stocking stuffer idea for my brother
- A journal for my sister: she's an artist
- A scrapbook for a co-worker: a request.

I think that's it so far--I've been pretty productive lately and I', totally stoked about my time off from work and school. This Christmas is going to be the best yet!

Happy Holidays and for those who are traveling: may your travels be safe and swift.

Awesome DIY Project....

This is my next project!!

I love this idea so much--and I always find really nifty, funky pot holders at thrift stores. I love the different, bright colors and funky patterns!

by Jessica Wilson

I am always looking for fun, crafty and funky ways to brighten spaces and this popped up when I searched one of my favorite websites, the Craftzine Blog

You have no idea how excited I am about this...I will keep you updated :)

Have an awesome weekend!

Awesomeness Postcard

Just finished this guy a little while ago...and then ran out of glue sticks :( So, I made a trip to Wally World to get some more. I think I'm going to start making little bundles of them--like 4 or 6 to a bundle or something. Then when I get a bunch together, I can think about selling them :) Or maybe...GIVEAWAYS!

Sounds fun!

Wish I could make copies of them so that I could make more of the same design. Then I could print them on thick card stock...might save some time.

Any ideas? How could I make this easier on myself? And I'm not likeing the packing tape over the top of them...I definately need a copier or something. Maybe I could take them to an office supply store and have them copied? Geez...all this thinking is giving me a headache :(

A DIY Project Finished

Yesterday, before I had to study for my last final (woot woot!), I had the chance to finish the dessert/muffin stand I started for Cor & I. He really like how it turned out--and he told me I did a good job on centering all the pieces :)

He's been helping me to glue all of the other ones together since I can never seem to get them centered. But this one, i did all by myself!

I love making these stands! They are totally unique...I suppose if I had sets of dishes I could make two of the same but where is the fun in that?

I love the pattern on the bottom tier & the brass candle stick is so pretty. I love the amber candy dish on the bottom too...I hardly ever find amber glass dishes at thrift stores so I couldn't pass it up! The top and bottom plates are from a totally different plate sets but are hand-painted by the same Japanese company-----just a little info on the materials :)

Yay! On to the next project :)

Up-cycled Shirt

I love this burgandy v-tee I bought at Target...but my stupis seatbelt has rubbed holes in it. I didn't want to just throw it away so I thought I would cover the holes somehow. This is what I came up with--
It's a one-of-a-kind shirt now :) I don't know how to sew or use a sewing machine so my awesome mother-in-law, Adele sewed it together for me ♥

I LOVE IT! I wore it yesterday and got a few compliments!

I had to put craft glue around the edges of the owl--and I'm going to put some behind the buttons and PRAY that it doesn't fray or come unraveled.

I think it looks pretty fantastic--what do you think?

I just might have to invest in a little hand-held sewing machine for this kind of fun stuff.

Thanks Adele, for helping me with this fun project!

And I had to wear my:
